Counselor Training, Sunday, Page 3

Everyone was given a 3 foot long rope. Everyone walked to the center of the room to take the end of someone else's rope who wasn't standing right next to them and to give the other end of their rope to another person who wasn't standing as far away as possible from them. Then the goal was for the group to become untangled without letting go of their ropes.

What a great activity this turned out to be! People were models of patience! It was very interesting to note that everyone stayed on task. Often in activities like this people who are not directly involved in the current action start side conversations and begin goofing around. That didn't happen this day. People were not only connected by ropes. They were also connected in a common bond to stay attentive to each person's efforts.

Yes, I know that there are many, many photos of the Knots activity shown here. I didn't want to eleminate any of these photos as I really think they show how difficult the problem was of untangling the entire group until everyone was in one very large circle. And I have really enjoyed looking at people's faces and attempts to help others. Moses
