Field Studies - Welcome to My World!

Welcome to My World! became a field study after Jeremy Beyer attended Outdoor School in the late 1980s. He was a 6th grade student who as a result of Muscular Dystrophy was a quadriplegic, unable to use his arms and legs. He taught those of us in camp so many lessons, and I realized that so many of us really didn't and still don't know how to relate to people with disabilities.

In this field study students briefly experience 3 disabilities, loss of hearing, loss of sight and asthma. It can be a powerful time of learning that first of all each person should be recognized as a person valued in our society who, by the way, might have difficulty performing tasks in some way.

Thank you, Vida, for leading Welcome to My World!
