Friends of the Family
by Jim Newton, Paul G. Hill, & Noel Paul Stookey, c 1986

Friends of the family,
Friends, among the best I've ever known.

Ever been some place so strange and new,
Didn't know one face, didn't know just what to do?
I've been there, too, felt just like you.

Chorus
I met some friends of the family,
Love can build a home away from home.
I met some friends of the family,
Friends, among the best I've ever known.

Ever felt so sad, so all alone,
Without a friend that you could call your own?
I've been there, too, felt just like you.

Repeat Chorus

Did you ever notice when you feel brand new
And you don't know them, and they don't know you?
You wonder how you're ever gonna' break the ice,
And then someone comes along
And treats you kinda' nice like
Friends of family,
Friends, among the best I've ever known.

Doesn't matter where - that you may go,
You'll find a friend,
That's one thing you should know.
I've been there, too, felt just like you.

Repeat chorus.
You are my friends,
Among the best I've ever known.

(Note from Moses -

This song has been a wonderful addition to the songs we sing at camp. Many of our shirts bear the phrase, "Friends among the best I've known" taken from the song . . . although the word "ever" was inadvertently left out!)
