Magic Penny
Words and music by Melvin Reynolds, 1955

Love is something if you give it away,
Give it away . . . Give it away.
Love is something if you give it away.
You'll end up having more.

It's just like a Magic Penny
Hold it tight, and you won't have any.
Lend it . . . Spend it . . . and you'll have so many,
They'll roll all over the floor.

Money's dandy, and we like to use it,
But love is better if you don't refuse it.
It's a treasure, and you'll never ever lose it,
Unless you lock up your door.

(Note from Moses -

Feet sang this song during the quiet time of campfire for many, many years. I would always use the time during this song to get ready to sign a song using white gloves and a black light or simply to gather my thoughts before I continued on with other slow, quiet songs. After Feet died as a result of complications resulting from prolonged diabetes, I found that even though this song was really simple, I had to learn it since I "checked out" while Feet was leading it each night and couldn't remember the words. In fact, the first time I ever led this song was at Feet's memorial service.

Now it's a song that we sing every campfire and in our hearts we dedicate it to Feet. And the words are typed on business cards and a penny is glued on each card before a card given to everyone on the last day of camp.)
